💌 Theme Introduction: A Letter to My Future Self
👩
Bella CHEN
Toastmaster

Bella opened with a powerful moment - pulling out a real letter from her pocket!

"Dear future Bella, I've carried this conversation in my heart for so long. Are you happy? Are you living the life we dreamed of?"
"Remember this: you're not just worthy of beauty; you are the beauty. That's why fairies and babies smile at you."
"Success isn't the thing that makes you proud. You love the journey, not just the destination."
"Our definition of happiness is: that golden hour when sunlight has... When a random dog chooses you as its soulmate. The first sip of boba tea that tastes like liquid joy. Mommy's love lines crinkling at your jokes."
"Whether you are reading this after victory or in a meltdown, here's a time-traveling hug from 2026 February the fourth. No matter where you are, who you become, I love you today, tomorrow, forever."

Pre-Meeting Question: If a crystal ball could tell you anything about your future, what question would you ask it and why?

🔮 Crystal Ball Questions
👨
Brother Bing

Question: About stock market

"I don't want to know my future - I want them to happen surprisingly to get that freshness. However, if I know the stock market in advance for next 5 years, I could invest all my money and get fortune. With that money, I could do a lot more things!"

👨
Hunter TU

Question: Is my pathway effective?

"Standing on stage with ease, expressing myself thoughtfully and empowering others has always been my goal."

👨
Ano WANG

Short-term: I'd like to ask if the department leader has left yet. If not, when? 'Cause he's a grown man acting like a baby and leading us eastward to fetch scriptures from the western heaven!

Long-term: Will time travel exist in my lifetime? I want to go back and see my foolish self from childhood.

👩
Joanna DUAN

Question: Will there be a time tunnel in the future that allows me to travel back at any moment in history?

"History is filled with both glorious and dark moments. But we can only catch glimpses through books. If I had a chance to go back and experience the grandeur of history firsthand as a history enthusiast, that would be pure happiness."

🎤 Table Topics: Letters to the Future
👨
Ano WANG
Table Topics Master

Ano shared his own letter first: Two questions to his 80-year-old self

  • Question 1: Do you have a warm relationship with your family? (His grandfather wanted to see his oldest son at age 80 but the wish didn't come true)
  • Question 2: Did you become a distinguished chef? (He became a learner at Beijing New East Cooking School and aspires to be a great chef in 40 years)

Ano prepared 8 questions about the future for tonight's speakers.

👩
Julie WEN
What hobby will make your future self fall in love with it?

"I have many hobbies now - swimming, yoga, practice. I want to be a yoga teacher! I want to teach people how to keep healthy and make your body work very well and in good condition. Maybe this is my new aspiration!"

👨
Luis
If you met yourself 5 years from now, what would you most want to say?

"Everyone wants money, furniture, everything. But maybe for myself, I want to ask: Are you really happy? I think happiness is very important for us. You should ask yourself from your heart - Do you really love your work? Your family? Did your aspiration become reality?"

👨
Jianghua
If your future self wrote back teasing that you are being silly now, how would you respond?

"I will tell the future me the truth. The fact is, I am truly silly right now because you can't choose a wider choice at your right age. Something you don't experience, you will never know how it will result. If you don't aspire to become a doctor and didn't try to do that, that will never come true. Just do what you can and do your best at the now, and don't worry about problems in the future!"

💬 Ano's response: "Everyone at each time is good, not silly. We should be confident - every moment we are the best!"

👨
Leo
After going through life's highs and lows, what would you say to yourself 3 years from now?

"After 3 years later, I'm still working in this city and a lot of people are also around me in this journey - Toastmasters. It's been a long time, long distance, long history. I'm really happy to have all of you, my good friends, like my family members. We can improve together, grow together, and make more memories in this community. No matter what we go through - ups and downs - we have this very safe, very harmony atmosphere to go along together. Friends and family is our power to go through up and down!"

👩
Ling W
If your future self could give only one piece of advice, what would they tell you to stop worrying about?

"One day, the future myself came to me. She will ask me not to be entrepreneur at my retirement age. As an entrepreneur, especially, it's quite difficult. We went through COVID-19 and China business slowdown. It's very tough time for me and my partners. But anyway, maybe the future myself will admire me - she will admire me very brave to take the team to go through for eight years."

👩
Bella CHEN
When your future self sees red marks on a health report, how will they face it?

"I hope it will never come true! First, it's gonna be a big storm - a blame, a lecture: 'Look! Always stay up so late, always scrolling on your phone, always watching videos in the dark! See, your eyes got some problem! And look at you, always eating trash, garbage food, fast food, fried chicken! Now you can laugh? Look at you! Look at your belly growing from a love handle to something different. Can you still see your feet when you look down?'"

"But then I'd say: Look up! Pull yourself together and start today! Remember the letter you wrote to yourself - you are different. This is a curse and it will NOT come true! You can change it right now, right here! Let's roll your sleeves up and let's do it tonight!"

👨
Eric
At GC Club gathering 10 years from now, what unchanged quality do you look forward to seeing most?

"I hope everyone in 10 years can still have the angelic heart and remember why you came here. The key idea is you want to promote yourself in some aspect. In 10 years we can look back and see you really trained this idea and have a lot of progression. Use the word: you have an aspiration!"

"For me, I want to find a reason why Toastmasters can be very influential in the world. Last year I tried to build a speech club by myself and even didn't know what Toastmasters was. I only had 2 members including me. The reason I came here is to find a way how to build a speech class. Now I want to use this platform to train myself on social media and short videos. Whatever you do in this club - nobody pays you - so find a way and train yourself as much as you can. Don't care about others. Nobody will judge you."

👨
Warren YUE
Which thing you never done will become your biggest regret in the future?

"I never think about my future. Brother Bing always told me, 'You should think about your goal!' But I never done that - it's too hard for me. But this question made me think a lot. I use AI to describe it, and every morning I read the updates and put them on my WeChat moment. Every day my parents give likes on my moment. So I can know my parents are here, and my parents can feel their son is also here."

"Yesterday my cousin called me around 9pm saying he called my father several times but no answer. I felt nervous - what happened to my father? But then I calmed down because yesterday I saw my father gave likes on my WeChat moment. So I think they must be safe. I had a video call - they are really good!"

"This is a thing I should think about. In the future I should learn for 10,000 days on my Red Note. If I can't do it, I will regret for my whole life!"

💭 Reflections on the Future
👨
Ano WANG

"In the future, we can be brave to think about the future because I think what we think is what is true. So we could have a bigger dream about the future and make friends with our future selves."

"Last weekend I read my diary from college time. I wrote: 'If I have no money in the future, how could I make a girlfriend and come to Beijing?' At that time I wanted to come to Beijing to learn, but later I found I didn't make a girlfriend and also I was poor. So I want to tell him: Don't think a lot, just do the thing you could do!"

👩
Bella CHEN
"When we talk about future, it forces us to think about the future. If it's a good thing in our imagination, we can start from now on and make it happen. If something bad pops up, we still have chance to prevent it from happening."
"Take care of yourself. Eat healthy food. Go to the gym. Take care of your body. Stay away from toxic people. Read more. Study more. Grow your knowledge base. It's all up to you."
"We don't need future teller. We ARE the future teller!"

"A Hot Pot Dinner's Lesson" - Dynamic Leadership L2-1

Dynamic Leadership L2-1: Understanding Your Leadership Style

Opening Question to Bella: "Do you think you still growing as fast as when you were a student?"

Story 1: Father's Lesson (Age 9)

When I was 9 years old, I studied in elementary school. One morning I didn't want to go to school and just hid with my best friend in the countryside yard. We even forgot about lunch.

In the afternoon, my father found me. He kicked me at my butt. It really hurt. Following that, I never did that again.

Lesson Learned: I learned discipline from my father. Because I'm a student, I should follow the rules. Even now, I arrive early to GC Toastmasters meetings and stay until the end. Discipline isn't punishment - it's respect for time, for others, for yourself.

Story 2: Hot Pot Dinner (Recent)

Several weeks ago, I was with my family. I have two daughters. We live on the 16th floor. My little daughter didn't want to take the elevator, so we walked step by step downstairs, and I held her tiny hand very firmly. After her calligraphy class, we came back from 1st floor to 16th floor, counting loudly: "One, two, three, four..."

When we reached my apartment, my daughter said: "Daddy, do you know what we will have for dinner?" She told me my wife bought ingredients for hot pot!

We were preparing. I cut the vegetables into very small pieces and put them into the wide round plate. When I was done, my daughter just shouted at me: "I want to do that! You can't do that for me!" She said this more than three times. That made me feel very annoyed and irritated.

Then I shouted at her: "Do it! Do it! Do it yourself!" That really made her burst into tears. She came to see her mother. I was sitting on the sofa in a very bad mood, thinking: "Why should I have children?"

Much later, my daughter came back to me and hugged me very tightly. That melted my heart. At that time, I knew my daughter used her heart to let me know I should stay with her. I should have the responsibility because I'm a father.

🎵 Daughter's Voice Recording: "爸爸,我好想你呀,你回来~"

"Every time I'm in bad mood, I listen to the song from my daughter. It makes me feel very happy, very relaxed."

Key Message:

  • From my father's kick: I learned I should follow the rules and come to meetings regularly
  • From my daughter's lesson: I learned I have the responsibility to do things
  • Core Insight: When we are growing, we never get old. But when we stop growing, we are old.

🎵 AI-Generated Song: "We don't stop growing when we get old..."

Warren created a song using AI based on this philosophy!

👨
Brother Bing
Evaluator for Warren

What Warren Did Brilliantly:

  • Audience Interaction: Question & Answer session with Bella - this is called "audience interaction" in Pathways. Warren successfully aroused interest with a prepared surprise!
  • Multimedia Impact: Added personal storytelling + AI sound + video. Even just listening to the sound, my heart was melting! Very effective application of multimedia materials!
  • Successful Storytelling: The story had TURNS - especially the second story taking daughter to calligraphy class and back for hot pot. The whole process fully captured my attention!
  • Excellent Delivery: Hand gestures, facial expressions, vocal variety - your voice matched the content of your story fabulously!

Suggestions for Next Time:

  • This is a leadership project - try to link your content with the leadership style concept more clearly
  • Find ONE Core Message: There are several points in your speech (family relations, life lessons). I would encourage you to find one core message. I loved the daughter interaction very much - that could be your promise!
  • Consider: Family relationship could be a lasting strength source for your life
  • Link all materials to support that one point

"Looking forward to your next storytelling project! Thank you!"

👩
Julie WEN
"Life is a Marathon" - Ice Breaker Speech

Ice Breaker Speech

Opening: "Thank you to Lei who gave me this fantastic opportunity to join Toastmasters, which I fell in love with right away!"

Background:

  • Been in Beijing for more than 10 years - one third of her life!
  • 朱颜辞镜花辞树,最是人间留不住 (Youth fades like flowers from the tree, nothing in this world can truly stay)

Past Career - Accounting Firm (2015):

After graduation, I started working in accounting firms conducting financial statement audits and internal control audits for listed companies. Since these were listed companies, their financial data could affect stock prices directly, so all team members had to sign confidentiality agreements. We were not allowed to hold any client's stock.

One company I audited - its net profit grew by 20% that year. I knew its stock price would rise a lot once the financial statement was released. I really wanted to buy them! If I had, I would have made a killing profit. What a shame I couldn't. Even my family's information was submitted and monitored. Of course, I have my professional integrity - I only imagined that.

The Breaking Point: I worked overtime a lot - usually got off around 2 AM. During busy season when reports were due, we basically pulled all-nighters. I remember one time vividly: I got off work around 4 AM and had to get up around 5 AM to catch the train for a business trip. I didn't sleep at all - just prepared stuff for the trip.

It was winter. I walked down the street feeling so cold and sorry. The street lights were still on. At that moment I was this close to crying. I almost broke down because I was so exhausted. Why did I push myself so hard? There's still a long life ahead of me. I couldn't treat my body like this.

"That's when it hit me: Life is a marathon."

Key Realization:

"Life is a marathon. No one keeps running at full speed all the time. It requires pace, rest and wisdom to adjust their speed when needed. We can't work under great pressure all the time - it simply won't last long."

Current Life - Finding Balance:

  • Decided to switch to a more balanced job - now working as finance in a company
  • This change was NOT about giving up - it was about redefining success in my own terms
  • Suddenly I have time to breathe!
  • Can do exercise regularly - swimming and yoga classes
  • Have time to meet with friends on weekends
  • Reconnect with my love for Chinese classic literature, especially 红楼梦 (Dream of the Red Chamber) - "What a masterpiece!"

Closing: "Thank you to Hunter who helps me prepare my speech. Thank you to Sarah and Brother Bing who is willing to be my mentor. I wish all of us could find the optimal speed in our life, strive for work-life balance, and keep going forward steadily!"

👨
Untie Li
Evaluator for Julie

"Everyone, Julie gave us a good speech! I think it's difficult for me to evaluate this speech because it's very, very good. The speech delivery is not as a freshman - more like level 2 or level 4, not level 1!"

What Julie Did Excellently:

  • Congratulations on finishing the Ice Breaker! You are perfect!
  • You gave the same experience of all of us in professional careers - like 996福报 work culture. We all have been very hard in work in the past
  • Your story has three parts - very clear structure
  • You gave a very difficult example for us, showing you must be successful in your professional career
  • Your speech is very friendly
  • Your experience is very simple and clear
  • Your awareness - you contact everyone, making you have more freedom on this stage
  • Your physical gestures are very excited and rich!

One Suggestion:

"I observed you speak too quickly. It's not bad for you, but slowing down a little bit can help everyone understand better!"

"Thank you, everyone!"

🎯 Table Topics Evaluation
👨
Cary CHEN
TT Evaluator

"Today we had about 30 minutes table topics session and at least 8 speakers on stage! Very high number, very good!"

Individual Feedback:

  • Julie: Very good! Told us your interesting hobbies like weightlifting and yoga. As a new member, you have great sense of time control - you even asked "I still have one minute right?" You made full use of it! Also, you didn't forget to use the word of the day!
  • Luis: You answered the question directly and instantly - "Am I still happy at that moment?" Very good! You paid attention to previous speakers (mentioning stock market). Try not to say "this" word too much next time.
  • Jianghua: Very calm! The question was harder for you, but you took time to think - that's very good! TTM mentioned every speaker has at least 20 seconds to think. Next time, try to free up your hands - you clasped your hands most of the time. Make full use of your gestures!
  • Leo: You mentioned Toastmasters and gave praise to the organization - very good! You were smiling at the audience, quite relaxed on stage. You showed you want to grow together with us!
  • Ling W: You said you don't want to be entrepreneur, worked through COVID difficulties. You were still smiling on stage - very nice!
  • Bella: Energetic! At first maybe a little nervous (hands back), but later you freed yourself! I loved your "I always, I always, I always" - very strong impact! Great gestures! You're a natural "chicken blood supplier" - at the end you energized the meeting!
  • Eric: You seized the opportunity to share your failure (tried to set up a club) and what you want to learn. You mentioned "上价值" (substantial value) - very good way to end!
  • Warren: One suggestion - you didn't answer the question directly at first, but the good thing is you kept talking! Pay attention to the question next time.

Feedback for TTM Ano:

  • Good thing: You prepared very well and remembered to give background for all speakers
  • Everyone had 20 seconds to think - good!
  • Suggestion: You can use a larger note so it's easier to read, or you can read it for the speaker

"Thank you, everyone!"

📊 General Evaluator Report
👩
Joanna DUAN
Timer

Meeting Status: We are only 9 minutes behind schedule! We did a great job!

Time Highlights:

  • Opening session was excellent - great honor to Bella!
  • Prepared speeches: Julia and Warren did a very good job staying on schedule!
  • We spent more time on evaluations, but it's worthwhile! Being here, we want to get feedback from fellow members
  • Outstanding Time Management: Leo, Bella, and Eric were amazing - used a little over 2 minutes but still under the 30-second grace period limit!

First-Time Timer Reflections:

  • This was my first time as timer, so I was kind of messy sometimes
  • I was hesitant to interrupt some evaluators, but I felt their feedback was more important than going home on time!
  • For new friends who don't know the rules, when I saw they were scared by the signs, I decided not to show the green sign to let them relax and talk
  • For advanced members who are good at managing time, I showed the green signs

"Overall, we all did a very good job! Thank you!"

👨
Hunter TU
Grammarian & Ah-Counter

Word of the Day Usage: "Thank you everyone! You really remember this word - Aspire! A lot of friends used it!"

  • Brother Bing, Harry, Jianghua, Louis, and others used it once
  • Bella, Leo, and Eric used it twice!

Pronunciation Tip: For Ano - "Chef, not shelf! Chef!" (Chef is more important than cook!)

🎵 Ah-Counter & "Hug Master" - Memorable Quotes:

"No matter where you are, who you become, I love you today, tomorrow, forever." - Bella
"I don't want to know anything happened in the future because I want them to happen to me surprisingly and I want to get this freshness in my future." - Brother Bing
"Money can give us more chance, more experience, but also more problems and you will lose your lucky." - Brother Bing
"If you don't get evaluation or feedback, you can't move faster." - Hunter
"You can't have a second chance to make a first impression. But tonight, I'm not making the impression on you but trying to make one on someone I haven't even met yet - the future me." - Jianghua
"What we think is what is true, so we could have a bigger dream about the future." - Ano
"Don't think too much, just do what you could do." - Louis
"When we talk about future, it forces us to think about the future. If it's a good thing, we can start from now on. If something bad pops up, we still have chance to prevent it from happening." - Bella
"We don't need future teller, we ARE the future teller!" - Bella
"Life is a marathon. No one keeps running at full speed all the time. Find your own speed in your life marathon." - Julie

"Wonderful job everyone! Thank you!"

👨
Hunter TU
General Evaluator

Special Thanks: "I learned from Cary and Brother Bing - they are seasoned and experienced Toastmasters!"

Evaluation Team Feedback:

For Timer Joanna:

  • You did a really great job! Maybe what you did was even better than expected
  • Don't feel stressed - timer should be cold-blooded! Starting and ending meeting on time is timer's duty and responsibility
  • The ring bell is not just a tool - it's your weapon! For us, it's a gift because we can save our time, control time
  • Suggestion: Next time, just introduce timer rules simply and clearly. If you want to share more, join TT section. Make it simple so we know where to stop and where to go on

For Toastmaster Bella:

  • Really impressive part at the beginning - you brought a letter, not a magic bag! You're not just the speaker but the DOER who can make our future better
  • A written letter is very good - really sweet and impressive!
  • Your transition was wonderful - I really want to listen to more of your words and sentences
  • Suggestion: Should be shorter because you have a lot of chances to say more. Timer is a difficult job!

For TTM Ano:

  • You thought quickly when Louis changed the topic about Toastmasters club - wonderful!
  • What will you do next time to avoid this? (Everyone might choose same topic)
  • You prepared well and your transition was fluent and smooth
  • All questions focused on the theme - very good!

For Evaluator Brother Bing:

  • Clear structure - talked about delivery part and content part
  • At first I thought you forgot the purpose of the speech, but at the end I heard it!
  • You covered: Hook/beginning, question, suggestion, gesture, multimedia impact, storytelling turns, vocal variety, suggestions about leadership and core message
  • It's wonderful! Full of good parts - a masterpiece!
  • Suggestion: If you add a summary next time, that would be great!

For Evaluator Untie:

  • Good eye contact with us and with the speaker
  • You evaluated content, body language, and structure
  • At the beginning, you talked about the positive parts of Julie's speech - very kind! You encouraged Julie to want to stand here again!
  • Suggestion: You mentioned Julie's speech was too fast, but didn't give suggestions at that time. Give one or two suggestions to help her next time!

"OK, no more! Thank you already!"
